Winter Resorts in the Czech Republic - Introduction

The location of the Czech Republic is the reason why lovers of winter sports will definitely have a wonderful time here. It is surrounded by mountain ridges virtually from all sides. In addition, most of the inland is occupied by downs, uplands and highlands. This all means it offers ideal preconditions for any winter activities.
The Czech mountains offer winter resorts with top-class equipment, high-quality slopes, cross-country tracks, bobsleigh runs as well as complete sports services such as skiing and snowboarding schools, schools for children, ski rental facilities and depots, etc. Numerous centres have also been selected to hold prestigious international sports events, such as the
Skiflying World Cup in Harrachov (map),
Slalom Ski World Cup in Špindlerův Mlýn (map) or the cross-country skiing and biathlon world cup races in Nové Město na Moravě
(map). The
FIS Nordic World Ski Championship in Liberec (map) in 2009 was one of the greatest winter sports events in the Czech Republic’s history.
The Czech Republic’s most popular winter sports are mainly cross-country skiing and downhill skiing. Snowboarding has won the hearts of especially the younger generations. Recently, the Czech mountains have been discovered by the fans of acrobatic skiing and snowkiting. Sledging and bobsleighing is an excellent pastime for skiers and non-skiers alike.
