Winter sports
Winter sports fans have top-equipped mountain centers at their disposal that offer good-quality slopes, tracks, bobsled runs and a technical sports background.
Several localities were chosen for organizing prestigious sports events (the World Cup of ski jumping in Harrachov, Zlatá lyže in Nové Město na Moravě, the World Cup of slalom in Špindlerův Mlýn).
Skiing and snowboarding schools provide their services, as well as ski rentals, in every skiing center.
When speaking about mountains and the fun that can be had in the mountains, we should also mention the dangers and risks one might face. The Czech Republic maintains a professional Mountain Rescue Service, which ranks among the best services of its kind worldwide. The rescuers ensure safety and provide first aid. In any case, every tourist in the mountains should behave properly, observe instructions and respect advice given by the Mountain Rescue Service, and not expose him/herself to dangers that are present in the mountains. Never go for hikes or cross-country skiing tours alone; do not ski off of marked ski slopes, and respect the current tourist marks. Make sure to get a current weather forecast and have enough water, food with sufficient energy content and spare warm clothes.
Trekking
In the highest areas of the mountain ranges and plains, where meadows alternate growths of dwarf pines and enable beautiful views of the surrounding, are the best conditions for trekking.
Downhill skiing
Ski centers are well-equipped with ski lifts and every visitor can find a slope that suits him. There are conditions suitable for beginners as well as professionals. Children as well as adults can take advantage of ski courses led by qualified instructors (also offered in German and English).
Snowboarding
Regular ski slopes are available for snowboarding as well as specialized and professionally equipped snowboarding centers. Some organize courses for snowboarders for all age groups.
