Martina Navrátilová has long been considered as the best known Czech woman on the planet. After she became an American citizen in 1981, her results in the then-Czechoslovakia her results were deliberately belittled and concealed. Nevertheless, twenty Wimbledon titles have made her once and for all a legend in the world of tennis.

She was World’s Best Player in 1978-79 and in 1982-86. She won the Grand Slam as the third woman in history (1984). In the years 1983 and 1984 she was also proclaimed World’s Best Sportswoman.

In 2006 Navrátilová ended her career as a tennis player. She won a total of  59 Grand Slam titles. She is currently considering establishing a tennis academy that could be based in the Czech Republic.
