Spa companies continue to expand their offer of various therapeutic and wellness programmes. Many hotels specialise in wellness. Compared to a classic spa programme, which is covered by the health insurance company, guests pay for these programmes themselves. And there is one more significant difference. While classic spa programmes, during which you visit the spa for treatment, last at least 3 weeks, regeneration programmes most frequently last a week to ten days, or even just a weekend.

Therapeutic programmes

But this does not mean that you do not receive spa care during these programmes, that you cannot take various spa treatments. Therapeutic programmes are available for people interested in these. You will undergo an entrance medical examination by the spa physician, who will put together a therapeutic plan according to your current state of health and will select the most suitable spa treatments. Your programme should last at least one week. You do not need any special medical referrals. All you need to do is make a reservation at your chosen spa.

Relaxation programmes

For those clients who simply wish to relax and renew their energy there are various X2 Relaxation and wellness programmes X2. These are not attended by a physician. They are really a classic holiday. Spas have a varied offer of product packages, most frequently for weekends, four to five days or a week. They are geared towards a particular group of clients, products are frequently targeted at women, managers or seniors, or the programmes are geared thematically.
Anti-stress programmes are geared towards managers for instance. Apart from treatments these programmes also include massages and even golf. Programme packages for women include cosmetic care and also massages. Many of these are focused on modelling the figure, using exercises on special machines, body packs and similar treatments.
You can also reserve just your stay and then select massages or treatments depending on your liking and mood. For instance at the Continental Hotel in Mariánské Lázně (map) ladies can enjoy Cleopatra’s bath full of milk and virgin olive oil perfumed with grape-vine, and baths full of hops and beer are prepared for the gentlemen.

Special treatments

Guests suffering from upper and lower airway disorders, particularly with allergies and asthma, may visit a salt cave. Salt cave treatments will help ease coughs, increase lung capacity and strengthen immunity. One visit usually lasts 45 minutes. According to experts this visit is equal to two to three days by the sea.
Guests who enjoy warmth may try various types of sauna. Herb saunas, which are offered at the Komorní Hůrka Spa & Wellness Hotel by Františkový Lázně1 (map) offer an unusual experience.
Cryogenic chambers (also called polariums) are the complete opposite. The extreme temperature of -110°C is utilised by many medical fields, for instance rheumatology or dermatology, as well as sports medicine. Polariums are available at the Cristal Palace Hotel in Mariánské Lázně, at Darkov Spa (map) or at the Beskydy Regeneration Centre in Čeladné0 (map).
All facilities offer various types of massage as a matter of course.

Wellness hotels

But you don’t have to visit a spa to take a relaxing holiday. Today many hotels also specialise in wellness. Why not combine wellness treatments with outings to see beautiful nature and monuments, or be active in sports, for instance golf or skiing? The newly opened Grand Resort Golf & Ski hotel in Mladé Buky2 (map) in the Krkonoš Mountains offers these activities. After skiing or playing on an 18-hole golf-course you can relax in the local wellness centre, where you can order treatments such as a Relaxing trip to Polynesia or an Unblocking trip to Asia. You can also relax tired muscles in the swimming pool or whirlpool.
Clients who desire a more stylish environment may try a stay at the Liběchov Residence (map) for instance. This hotel is housed in a villa dating from the 1930s and is furnished in the Art Deco style. You can find it in the picturesque Kokořín Region, only 30 minutes drive from Prague.
