One World
One of the most significant and also biggest film festivals One World, which deals with human rights issues, will offer more than 100 films from 30 countries this year. The main part of what is already the 12th year of the festival will be held in Prague from 10 to 18 March, with regional festivals in 29 cities of the Czech Republic to follow in March and April.
The center of the Prague festival will be the
Lucerna cinema, as is traditional. Visitors can watch more films in the cinemas
Světozor and Evald,
Archa Theatre,
Municipal Library and in the French Institute. Tickets for the individual films can be purchased in all cinemas for CZK 70.
The entire festival will be opened with the Green Days documentary by twenty-one-year-old Iranian director Hana Makhmalbaf, which won the Bravery Prize at last year’s Venice festival, and which made the author leave her country because of the risk of being arrested.
Like every year, the festival will welcome dozens of foreign guests, mainly directors, who will participate in discussions right after screening of their films. The side program of the festival will also be rich, and it will include exhibitions, debating evenings, film marathons, screenings in the individual city quarters, and films for children and parents have also been prepared.
The One World Festival will be held under the auspices of the former president Václav Havel, Minister of Culture Václav Riedlbauch and the Mayor of the Capital City of Prague Pavel Bém. A selection of the films will also be presented in Brussels.
