The saying is: Every Czech is a musician. Leoš Janáček, Antonín Dvořák, Bedřich Smetana, Bohuslav Martinů or Rudy Linka – world famous names that do not need a detailed introduction.

Classical music and jazz concerts and festivals, which are held at many sites in the Czech Republic, host leading classical music performers from around the world and this country every year. Therefore it is no wonder that these events can boast significant interest from Czech and also foreign visitors and the performers themselves enjoy returning to the Czech Republic.

The most important classical music festivals include:

  • Prague Spring – this festival will present dozens of concerts and performances by more than a thousand artists from all over the world during its 65th season.
  • Smetana’s Litomyšl – an international opera festival, which takes place in Bedřich Smetana’s town of birth and is the second largest regular classical music festival held here after Prague Spring.
  • Janáček‘s Hukvaldy – a musical celebration, which is held in honour of one of the most original personalities of Czech and world modern music – Leoš Janáček.
  • International Music Festival Český Krumlov – an international music festival held in the attractive locality of Český Krumlov, which is a UNESCO world cultural heritage site.
  • Kutná Hora Music Festival – in spite of its youth this festival is a unique creative workshop for brilliant performers from all over the world. The beautiful surroundings of Kutná Hora contribute towards its increasing popularity.

Important jazz festivals:

  • Jazz Goes to Town – a jazz festival hosted every year by the town of Hradec Králové, it has become one of the most prestigious international jazz festivals in the Czech Republic.
  • Bohemia JazzFest – Rudy Linka, the world famous native Czech jazzman, has held this festival in the Czech Republic since 2005. It regularly takes place on the squares of several Czech towns.
  • Proms Prague International Music Festival – a fairly new festival offering a varied and novel musical palette: from the Beatles through jazz, Italian aria to film music .
