Thanks to its location, this region is one of the most attractive destinations in Central Europe. Its immediate neighbour is the capital city of the Czech Republic and so this region is also attractive to the local inhabitants, chiefly due to its easy access to Prague. This area also offers a picturesque landscape and a number of historic monuments.

Prague is the seat of the Regional Authority. The area of the Central Bohemian Region makes up nearly 14% of the total area of the Czech Republic. It completely surrounds the capital city and also boasts one of the densest transport networks in the Republic. Due to the fact that it neighbours the capital city the most important railways and transit networks pass through this region. From the economic aspect both industrial production and agriculture are present in this region.

There are five protected landscape areas of various characters in Central Bohemia. From the natural aspect the most valuable of these include the , registered with UNESCO3 as a biosphere reserve. The natural landscape area of (map), the name of which indicates the beauty of this locality, is also included in the UNESCO geopark network. The town of (map), which is also a UNESCO world heritage site, is distinguished as having the greatest concentration of monuments. Places such as the and also boast enormous natural assets.
