World Gold Panning Championships at Zlaté Hory
The first World Gold Panning Championships will take place in the historical outdoor museum at Zlaté Hory in the Jesenik Mountains from 16th to 22nd August 2010. Representatives from member states of the World Gold Miners Association from all over the world will take part in the event.
A varied accompanying programme – performances by many country and folk music bands, an exhibition of photographs from past gold panning events, a mineral market and an exhibition of gold samples from localities in Zlaté Hory – is prepared for visitors and competitors at this year’s event. Visitors can try their skills at the gold panning school and will learn plenty of interesting information about the present and history of gold mining from the guide during a walk along the educational mining trail.

Jan Rothmayer: Photographs
The architect Otto Rothmayer was among closest friends of Josef Sudek. In the 1950s, his son Jan Rothmayer (1932 Prague—2010 Prague) was Sudek’s assistant and student. Most of his photographs were taken in the garden of his family’s villa in Prague, but also in the gardens of Prague Castle and the Veltrusy Chateau park. Jan Rothmayer was one of the first Czech photographers to become enchanted by Josef Sudek’s distinctive poetic style and to pioneer the use of the contact printing method. The exhibition is not only a recollection of the magical atmosphere of the villa and garden that belonged to Rothmayer’s family, but also a tribute to the two men’s remarkable friendship.
