Awards at the 45th Karlovy Vary International Film Festival

This year the 45th Karlovy Vary International Film Festival (MFF) (map) took place from 2nd to 10th July 2010 and presented over 200 films from all over the world.

The film festival in Carlsbad is of interest to professionals as well as amateur film viewers. Countless films are screened here every year and the event is attended by many important Czech and foreign celebrities.

This year the event was honoured by the presence of foreign celebrities such as British actor Jude Law, prominent Academy Award winning Russian director Nikita Michalkov and the MacDonald brothers, Andrew (producer) and Kevin (Director).

Films competing in the International feature-length film contest attract the greatest attention. Apart from the contests the festival program also included a number of various parties, entertainment events, seminars, etc.

And who were the Crystal Globe winners?

  • Grand Prix (best feature film):
The Mosquito Net; Spain, 2010. Directed by: Agustí Vila. A film drama about the disturbed relations within a well-situated family, main role played by Geraldine Chaplin.
  • Outstanding artistic contribution to world cinema:
Russian director, scriptwriter, producer and actor  Nikita Michalkov.
  • Special Jury Prize:
Kooky; Czech Republic, Denmark, 2010. Director: Jan Svěrák.
  • Best Director Award:
Rajko Grlić for his film Just Between Us; Croatia, Serbia, Slovenia, 2010.
  • Best Actress Award:
Anais Demoustier for her role in the film Sweet Evil; France, 2009. Director: Olivier Coussemacq.
  • Best Actor Award (ex-aequo):
Mateusz Kościukiewicz and Filip Garbacz for their roles in the film Mother Teresa of Cats; Poland, 2010. Director:
Pawel Sala.
  • Special acknowledgment:
Another Sky; Russia, 2010. Director: Dmitrij Mamulija.
