The entire Czech Republic boasts some 400 castles and ruins and approximately 1,600 chateaus, a vast majority of which close their expositions in winter and prepare for the following year.

The high season in castles, chateaus and other objects of the Czech Republic's historical heritage begins in April and lasts until late autumn, i.e. the end of October. However, the largest and most important sights are often accessible year round. These include for instance the best-known of all Czech castles, Karlstejn Castle (map), Prague Castle (map), Spilberk Castle (map) in Brno, Loket Castle (map) in Western Bohemia, Sychrov Castle (map) in Northern Bohemia or the Chateau of Hluboká (map), dubbed the country’s most graceful chateau, or Lednice (map) in South Moravia.

The season opening ceremonies held in castles and chateaus often feature a rich cultural programme. They involve historical fairs, knights’ tournaments or theatrical shows. The permanent guided tours of castles and chateaus feature new exhibitions or programmes. The most popular ones include e.g. night or fairy tours.

More information about the events can be found on the web sites of individual castles and chateaus. Numerous other tips are presented on the Kudy z nudy server.
