On 31 May 2011, the long expected premiere of Lidice took place in the Czech Republic. The film makers have enchanted both reviewers and the audience. The response was so favourable that Czech compatriots living abroad and foreigners who are familiar with Lidice’s destiny expressed interest.

"The film Lidice is not a historical document. It is not a war film either. Lidice is about the personal drama of ordinary people from a small village in the central part of the Czech Republic”, say the people who created the film.

Lidice (map) is a village with less than five hundred inhabitants. It is situated in the region of Central Bohemia, 20 km northwest of Prague. During the Second World War, more precisely, on the 10th of June 1942, the X4 village was wiped out X4 by the Nazis. It was their revenge for the successful assassination of Deputy Reich-protector of Bohemia and Moravia Reinhard Heydrich, who was executed by Czech parachutists.

The film is based on the script written by the famous writer Zdeněk Mahler, and it is directed by Petr Nikolaev. Reviewers wrote that the film shows human trauma with humbleness but also with great courage to talk about the national tragedy through the misfortune of individuals.

The plot of the film is based on the fate of individual inhabitants of the little village and their relationships, mainly love, which begins at the very beginning of the story. The film offers a lot of emotion, which leads to the catastrophic burning down of the small Czech village. The pretence for the liquidation of the entire village was a single love letter.

Czech compatriots from the United States of America have shown interest in seeing the film. It will be projected at the Czech Embassy in Washington D.C. In addition, the Czech Centre in Israel evinced strong interest in the projection. The Czech Ministry of Defence, along with the creative team, are preparing a projection of Lidice for Czech military units currently operating in Afghanistan.
