Olympic Parks in Czechia

Four Olympic Parks opened across the Czech Republic in celebration of the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro. The parks offered visitors various Olympic sports such as running, beach volleyball or water polo. The attractions also included sports presently not recognized as the official Olympic Games sports. In addition, Czech athletes of various sport disciplines were present as instructors.

The Olympic Park idea is a unique concept from a global point of view. The first Olympic Park opened at Letná Park in Prague during the 2014 Winter Olympics held in Sochi. The Czech Olympic Committee located this year's “Rio-Lipno Park” by the Lipno water reservoir and it was by far the largest of the parks. During 17 days, sports fans could try 47 sports at eight locations, for example, bike lovers could ride along 108km cycling routes.

Non-sporting crowds enjoyed a number of events or they cheered and supported Czech athletes on large TV screens.
Another three Olympic Parks were opened in Ostrava, Pardubice and Pilsen. As far as their area is concerned, neither of these parks reached the size of the Lipno Park, however, the entertainment programme attracted a large number of visitors. Just like at Lipno, people could try a wide variety of sports, both the Olympic and non-Olympic ones. Sport venues were accompanied by concerts, charity events and meetings with athletes and autograph signings.
