The 30th Summer Olympic Games in London were very successful for Czech sportspeople. They won ten medals in total: four gold, three silver and three bronze medals. The only greater success was the games in Atlanta in 1996, where the Czech team totalled one more bronze medal.

The Czech Republic finished in 19th place in regards to the total number of medals of all participating countries. 133 Czech sportspeople took part in the Summer Olympic Games, of which 68 were men and 65 women. The sport with the largest representation was athletics (31), followed by rowing (12), canoeing (11) and cycling (11).

So what medals did the Czech Republic win?

Gold medals:
  • Mirka Knapková – single scull
  • Barbora Špotáková – javelin; one of the most successful Czech sportswomen. She defended her Olympic gold from Peking by throwing her javelin 69.55 m, and thus won her second Olympic gold medal.
  • David Svoboda – modern pentathlon
  • Jaroslav Kulhavý – cyclist; he won the Olympic gold medal in the mountain bike competition
Silver medals:
  • Ondřej Synek – single scull
  • Vavřinec Hradilek – kayak – whitewater slalom
  • Andrea Hlaváčová and Lucie Hradecká – women’s doubles tennis
Bronze medals:
  • Daniel Havel, Lukáš Trefil, Josef Dostál and Jan Štěrba – kayak four
  • Adéla Sýkorová – rifle shooting
  • Zuzana Hejnová – 400 m hurdles
The Czech representation had its own centre for promoting Czech sport and for the meeting of fans and the Czech team in London. Czech House offered, apart from the regular information service about the SOG, a rich cultural programme.
