Bread Basket is the name of the oldest and most visited Czech agricultural exhibition, which takes place every year at the end of August at the exhibition grounds in České Budějovice. Its history began in 1972, when the label “Nationwide Agricultural Exhibition, the Earth as a Provider, České Budějovice” was introduced for the first time. This exhibition continued from events held since 1960 as regional agricultural exhibitions.

During its existence The Earth as a Provider has become an acknowledged specialist agricultural exhibition, with presentation of plant and animal production, feedstuffs, agricultural technology, food and processing industry, ecology, forestry and water management, environmental protection, services for agriculturalists and agro-tourism.

In 2006 two new thematic projects were launched within the scope of the Earth as a Provider exhibition, the Ekostyl exhibition and International Cooperative Farming exhibition, which have been held every year since then.

The Ekostyl thematic exhibition focuses on formation and protection of the environment, ecological technologies, alternative energy sources, organic products and a healthy life style. The International Cooperative Farming exhibition is an exhibition of consumer goods, electronics, construction, textile and leather haberdashery, and also agricultural and food industry products, security technology, etc.

The 39th year of the Bread Basket Exhibition will take place in České Budějovice (Map) from 30 August to 4 September 2012. The main topics of the exhibition are revival and development of the countryside, plant and animal production, agricultural technology, food production, wood and water industry, gardening and planting and other services concerning agriculture.

One of the primary aims of the exhibition has been introducing regional foods and foodstuff with the national quality brand KLASA, the new “Czech Product” brand warranted by the Federation of the Food and Drink Industries of the Czech Republic. Tastings of foods will be accompanied by cooking shows, special recipes, music programmes and competitions.

You will find more information about the exhibition here.
