The basic task of ecological organizations is to advocate, defend and effect pubic concern on a healthy environment for life and nature protection.

However, the tasks that organizations set out are much wider and more ambitious.

  • They struggle for legislative changes that would lead to the protection of all people’s health against pollution, or to the reduction of waste quantity.
  • They care for some of the rarest parts of Czech nature.
  • They defend concerns of local people and nature protection in deciding on large constructions or handling green areas and landscape. They build and operate nature trails.
  • They provide ecological awareness and education. They cooperate with villages in introducing ecologically efficient projects.

It is important is to keep these organizations independent and impartial toward the state, industry and pressure groups.

In autumn 2005, Czech ecological organizations agreed on an ethical code, a valid version of which can be found on the Green Circle Civil Association website.
