The Czech Republic is located in Central Europe; the country, surrounded by bordering mountain ranges, can be seen from outer space. More than 1,000 years of chequered history have contributed to this country, which makes for a very interesting read.

The Czech Republic is a typical landlocked country that is partly hilly and partly flat, and in which several important European rivers have their origins. Extensive information about climate, total area and waters and mountains of the Czech Republic is provided, along with detailed maps, in the Geography section.

The characteristics of the Czech countryside offer mountains, forests and national parks. Czechs have built a very positive relationship with the nature that surrounds them. They often visit it, and understand well how and why it must be protected.

More than 1,000 years of Czech history, glorious and often wild, started with the first state formation on the territory, the Great Moravian Empire. Many famous Czechs are also well-known in history and you can find out more about them here.

Since the so-called Velvet Revolution which helped to dismantle the communist regime subordinated to the Soviet Union in 1989, the Czech Republic enjoys the status of an advanced democracy. Czech politics are based on the ideals of democracy, a free-market economy and respect of human rights.
