The research was focused on safety in road transport, hygienic and health risks, threat of natural disaster and the problem area of tolerance towards minorities.
As regards road traffic safety, the research concluded that the death rate on Czech roads is decreasing. The statistical data shows a total of 1,300 deaths on Czech roads in 2002, while in 2010 it was 753 people. Globally, among the safest countries for road traffic are e.g., Japan, Singapore, Switzerland and Malta.
Hygiene and health
There are many extraordinary and attractive destinations but the hygienic conditions in some countries are sometimes so bad that tourists with strict requirements on hygiene levels would primarily not decide for a visit.
The Czech Republic has introduced a sophisticated information system which warns of hygienically troubled situations.
In particular, hygienic condition monitoring includes the state of sewage systems, availability of potable water, hygienic conditions in restaurants, occurrence of epidemics and pandemics. Restaurants and hotels in the Czech Republic are regularly inspected, at least once every two years, ensuring their hygienic safety is at a good level.
Potable water and water in water areas designed for recreation in the CR is regularly analysed, and there are strict criteria for the quality of potable and bottled water. It means that there is no reason to worry about tapped water or public water distribution systems anywhere in the territory of the Czech Republic. The producers of bottled water in the CR are required to submit a certificate on quality inspection every year. Within the network of hygienic stations, 230 outdoor swimming-pools are monitored (of which 136 are natural swimming pools and areas).
The quality of surface water in the Czech Republic has continuously improved due to the systematic development of waste water treatment plants.
The hygienic conditions in the Czech Republic can be assessed by the Travel and Tourism Competitiveness Index (TTCI), whose fourth pillar is focused on hygiene and health. Health care in the Czech Republic is of high quality and readily available. According to the TTCI, in terms of the general hygiene and health care, the Czech Republic is in 6th place, after Austria and Germany.
It should be emphasised that rescue teams arrive in 15 minutes in the Czech Republic. The standard minimum arrival time within the EU is 30 minutes.
Safety from the view of a natural disaster
The Czech Republic is located in a zone where earthquakes are unknown and strong storms or tornados are only exceptional. The only natural disaster which may occur in the Czech Republic is local flooding. As for the threat of natural disaster, the Czech Republic also counts among the very safe countries.
The Czech Republic has one of the best flood and other threat warning systems in Europe. The weather forecast focused on flood conditions is provided by the Czech Hydrometeorological Institute in collaboration with administrators of larger rivers. The main purpose is to inform relevant bodies and protected subjects on potential flood danger and its development
Tolerance towards minorities
On principle, the Czech Republic is a tolerant country, where tourists do not have to worry about racist undertakings or violence related to religious belief, race or sexual orientation.
Religious minorities in the Czech Republic exist without trouble. They tolerate each other and non-believers respect them.
At the end of 2010 there were total 437,251 foreigners in the Czech Republic, which accounts for 4.2% of the total population. In comparison with other EU states, the share of foreigners is under the average. There are some 6% of foreigners on average living in EU countries. In the Czech Republic, the above mentioned percentage comprises the Slovak, Ukrainian, Vietnamese and Russian minorities (in descending order, as for their numbers). The minorities have integrated into the majority society and all nationalities live together without problems.
In conclusion, following from the above assessed safety criteria which may directly or indirectly influence the general assessment of the Czech Republic, it is indicated that the Czech Republic is an ideal destination for holiday, business meeting or event, with research further confirming that the Czech Republic is a safe destination.
