The 8th year of the European Athletics U23 Championships takes place from 14 to 17 July 2011 at the City Stadium in Ostrava-Vítkovice.

This international competition is a stepping point for top young sportsmen whose aim is to succeed at big international competitions. Competitors from the past years include e.g. the current record holder in the pole vault, Yelena Isinbayeva or the Czech pole vault jumper Jaroslav Bába.

The biggest stars of this year’s championships will be the triple European champion from Barcelona – the French Christophe Lemaitre, Teddy Tamgho the French triple jumper who broke the indoor world record with his 17.90 metre long jump, or the current world number two in discus throwing Sandra Perkovič from Croatia.

As for young Czech sport stars, visitors can look forward to seeing the performances of the javelin thrower Jakub Vadlejch, who qualified for the European Championships in Barcelona in 2010. Among other competitors will be the hurdler Martin Mazáč, who qualified to the World Indoor Championships this year or Kateřina Šafránková, the silver medallist from the 2008 World Junior Championships in the hammer throw.

The good name of the championships is supported by the four ambassadors Šárka Kašpárková, Denisa Rosolová, Robert Změlík and Jaroslav Bába.

You can find more information about the competition in Ostrava-Vítkovice (map) here.
