Pupils of primary schools
At present, pupils - foreigners who attend primary schools - can take the same advantages as Czech pupils; their meals in school dining-room are co-financed by the state and their textbooks are provided free of charge.
Children of asylum-seekers are provided meals and transport to school by their asylum facility.
Students of secondary and higher vocational schools
The director of a secondary or higher vocational school can release scholarschip regulations after the approval of the school founder. This allows him to provide a scholarschip based on study results. Scholarship regulation is fully under the competence of each individual school, which can set its own rules and limits.
Foreigners can take advantage of provided meals and housing to the same extent as Czech citizens.
University students
Foreign students wishing to study at a Czech tertiary school in another language than the Czech language must pay tuition. However, these costs usually cover only the costs of the studies themselves; foreign students must also pay for other needs connected with housing, means, textbooks, etc. Therefore, they can apply for
scholarships, which are reserved only for students studying in Czech language. Other students must finance their needs from other sources.
Foreign students who attend Czech secondary schools or universities at the expense of the Czech Republic are also provided with health care to the same extent and under the same conditions as Czech students.
Students who study in the Czech Republic at their own expense must finance their health care:
- from personal resources or from their health insurance concluded in the Czech Republic, or
- from their state, which must in this case have an agreement with the Czech Republic about the provision of health care free of charge (does not apply to students from Slovakia).
