Twenty-four Czech university students were given special awards from France for their research work. The Ambassador of France in the Czech Republic, Pierre Lévy, and the laureate of the Nobel Prize for chemistry, Professor Jean-Marie Lehn awarded the winners with a cheque and the offer of a research fellowship in France for their contributions to nuclear and computer science, chemistry, pharmacy and medicine.

The French Republic has already been awarding Czech students for their success in science for two decades and it was the French winner of the Nobel Prize, Professor Lehn, who established this tradition. The prize in chemistry, named after the professor, was given to Marie Nádherná from Charles University for her project dedicated to new safe non-flammable Li-ion batteries. Martina Nádherná examines non-volatile ion liquids used in batteries. The advantage of such batteries, e.g. in electro mobiles, lies in their non-flammability and harmlessness to the environment.

Other prizes were given for e.g. research of liver diseases or scintillation materials. Among the award recipients were students of the Faculty of Medicine in Hradec Králové (Charles University), the Czech Technical University in Prague, the Prague Institute of Chemical Technology and the Brno University of Technology. You will find the winners of particular categories here.
