The Week of Science and Technology – the biggest scientific festival in the Czech Republic which aims to popularise science and technology for the wider public, will take place from 1 to 11 November. Its carefully guarded laboratories and research centres will open their doors to visitors once again.
Contrary to preceding years when people “only” had a chance to look into the work of researchers in Prague, Brno, České Budějovice, Ostrava and Olomouc, this year's Week of Science and Technology will also take place in Pilsen, Ústí nad Labem, Pardubice, Jihlava and Zlín.
The motto of the 11th year of the festival is Science for Life. Those interested will have an opportunity to see how they can make a multi-media room in their home or compare their abilities with the most intelligent computer in the world, the first one to beat a person in a knowledge competition such as “Risk”. All that and much more will be available to the visitors of the interactive website Technet.cz in the building of the
Academy of Sciences of the CR (map).
Within the festival, the
National Technical Library in Prague is preparing a number of entertaining demonstrations and chemical experiments for future chemists. Krteček, the popular Czech animated character that was on board the space shuttle Endeavour during its last flight to space, will explain to visitors in Pilsen what it is like to be in a space shuttle or a space station and what cosmonautics is about. Last but not least, lectures about the chemistry of love will take place in Zlín and the chemist Michael Londesborough will prepare a taste of aphrodisiacal delicacies.
