To draw young foreigners to study in the Czech Republic and establish contacts that would enable Czech students to study abroad – this was the main goal of representatives of three universities that presented Czech university education at a gathering of professionals in the field of international university education at the NAFSA Annual Conference and Expo in Kansas City in America.

Representatives of Masaryk University in Brno, Palacky University in Olomouc and Charles University in Prague, met existing and potential partners in Kansas City at the beginning of June and discussed partnerships within the scope of student and teacher exchange programmes, as well as in the field of project partnerships and preparation of short-term study programmes. The Study in the Czech Republic stand, which was organised by the Centre for International Services with the support of the Ministry of Education, Youth adn Sports, served as a contact point.

University representatives chiefly welcomed participation at the trade fair for the opportunity of establishing personal contact. A personal meeting not only increases the credibility of the institution, but also markedly reduces the period that it takes to transition from words to actions: i.e. from discussion to launch of specific partnerships. Universities from the USA and the Korean Republic expressed great interest in the Czech stand this year.

The 62nd year of NAFSA , which was launched by the well-known writer Salman Rushdie, hosted over 7,000 participants from nearly 100 countries this year. The number of students interested in studying abroad is growing worldwide. 2 million students studied abroad in 2001, in 2008 this number reached 3 million and according to estimates it will rise to 7 million in 2025.
