AMoYA – museum of young art newly in Prague

A unique project called Artbanka Museum of Young Art (AMoYA) was created in Prague in an unbelievably short time of only four weeks. It broadens new horizons of the contemporary Czech art scene in an international context.

The main mission of the project is to present young artists to the public and support their creative work as well as to point out the talent of the most significant artists of the Czech art scene since 1968. The museum should become a meeting place for people with an artistic spirit, where contemporary art and untraditional concepts blend.

It was opened on Karlova Street (map), the busiest tourist street in Prague, only a few steps from the Charles Bridge. Covering an area of 4,000 , Czech and foreign visitors can admire the best of contemporary young art. The museum is situated in the baroque Collorado-Mansfeld Palace, which is a sad example of the insensitive reconstructions of historical monuments from the era of the Communist regime. Combining the spirit of the old architecture and modern contemporary exhibitions, the museum promises its visitors an extraordinary experience.

The AMoYA conception consists in combining permanent and temporary exhibitions that include the major and most significant Czech art pieces with a programme of Young visual art from the last 20 years. Within the Young visual art programme, the different styles and attitudes of students, graduates and teachers from art universities in the Czech Republic and Slovakia are confronted by each other. You will find a precise programme of the ongoing and planned exhibitions of well-established as well as young artists here.

The AMoYA Museum, with its courageous conception, proves that a museum does not necessarily have to represent a conservative colossus. On the contrary, it can be a place where a new generation of curators and artists get a chance to show their work. It also signifies that Prague, and the entire Czech Republic, is a modern European cultural centre. More detailed information is available here.
