Czech castles and chateaus open the new season

The beginning of April is traditionally the period during which castles and chateaus open their gates to the public.

There are approximately four hundred castles and castle ruins and approximately 1,600 chateaus throughout the Czech Republic. You can find a list of those that are open to the public on the website of the National Monument Institute. You can find more information about castles and chateaus here.

However, castles and chateaus do not simply offer classic tour circuits. Night tours are also very popular, for instance at Karlštejn Castle (map), and fairy tale evening tours at Náměšti Chateau na Hané (map) or at Bouzov Castle (map). In other places tour guides give tours dressed in period costume.

Various exhibitions, concerts, festivals and theatre performances regularly take place at castles and chateaus. Various events, historic fairs, knight’s tournaments, swordsmanship performances and vendage events are also held. Balls, dances and fancy dress carnivals are less usual.

You can find information about events being held on the websites of individual castles and chateaus. You can also find lots of tips on the Kudy z nudy server.
