Dancehalls in the Czech Republic

A dancehall is where people dance. This is usually a hall, club or bar where dance parties are held for all who want to dance or just enjoy a pleasant evening.

While in the Czech Republic, as well as elsewhere in the world, this kind of fun is dominated by discos and disco music, which is more suited to the needs of young dancers, the almost forgotten classic dancehalls are making a comeback.

Many dance venues exist in the Czech Republic. Young people mainly prefer the aforementioned discos, where a variety of modern music is played. However, there are also dancehalls where one can find classic ballroom dancing and also modern dance and disco dancing.

Dancehalls in the Czech Republic are often located next to various dance schools and are not just for those taking dancing lessons, those who want to practice what they have learned, but also for the general public. Special evenings are held for the general public, which simultaneously provide basic dance instruction. Dancehalls may specialise in a variety of dance styles. We can find dancehalls with classic ballroom dancing or hot and temperamental Latin American dances, and even dancehalls with the salsa.

“Dance lessons” in secondary schools are a speciality in the Czech Republic. These are specially organised courses for young students in secondary schools who, for the first time, are becoming acquainted with classic ballroom dancing and are learning the basics of social behaviour. The objective of these courses is to teach boys how to be gentlemen and girls how to be young ladies. The dance lessons culminate with a final evening called a dance party, where the graduates show everything they have learned during the past six months.
