Jaroslav Hašek

A Czech writer, political writer and journalist, author of the world famous novel “The Good Solider Švejk” (four volumes, uncompleted, 1921 – 23). In this novel he satirises the militaristic, bureaucratic and police machine, while the indestructible vitality of simple people is celebrated. Hašek began as a writer by writing short stories, sketches and humorous articles, which were initially printed in magazines and as books, for instance My Dealings with Dogs and Other Amusing Tales (1915).
