The most successful Czech female runner of all time and a trainer. She won her first title on a domestic track in 1974.

Jarmila Kratochvílová achieved many superb successes:
  • World Champion in 1983 in the 400 meter and 800 meter
  • a silver medal at the Olympic Games in 1980 (400 meter)
  • indoor European Champion in 1982
  • European Outdoor Chmapion in 1983
In 1983, Jarmila Kratochvílová created a world record as the first woman to run 400 meters in under 48 s) and was declared the greatest female athlete in the world. Her world record in the 800 meter has yet to be broken. After finishing her active career, Jarmila Kratochvílová moved on to devoting her time to working as a trainer. She is the co-author of the autobiographical book Waiting.
