Museum Kampa – Jan and Meda Mládek Foundation acquired another 44 art pieces of the world-famous painter František Kupka into its rare collection.

The new collection includes primarily studies, aquarelles, pencil drawings and oil paintings. The most significant of them is the oil painting of a girl dancing in a garden from 1906, when the painter's abstract art period began.

The entire new collection was bought for the museum by a big admirer and patron of the museum Meda Mládková from the American collector and art historian Lilli Lonngren Anders.

The Collection of František Kupka’s art pieces is the basis of the large collection of Jan and Meda Mládek in the Museum Kampa (map). The whole collection features 215 of Kupka’s studies, drawings and paintings and belongs among the most complex collections of its kind in the world. The collection is practically priceless and no proper retrospective of this artist can get along without borrowing studies and paintings from this collection. At the turn of the millennium, Meda Mládková donated the collection to the capital city of Prague.

The most famous of Kupka’s paintings is the Amorpha – Fugue in Two Colours. Legend has it that the painter’s work was incited by his stepdaughter playing with a ball in the garden. This painting by Kupka inspired designers to create the collection of clothes for Czech sportspeople for the coming Olympic Games in London, which will take place from 25 July to 12 August 2012. You may look at the clothing designs here.

More detailed information about the collection and the museum can be found here.
