The exhibition features more than eighty dresses from thirty-five fashion houses of the time, which includes the most luxurious companies as Rosenbaum, Podolská, Roubíčková or Bárta, and also the work of medium-sized and smaller houses. All of the exhibited dresses prove that the renowned Prague elegance comprised precise design, masterly craftsmanship, high-quality materials and elements of the period French and English fashion trends adjusted to the Czech environment. This combination enabled the creation of models of real European quality. Visitors can thus admire overly-flamboyant and old-fashioned models as well as timeless dresses that would even allow their owner to sparkle amidst the social events of today.
Moreover, visitors can try the difficult work of being a dressmaker and design basic styled dresses and skirts on a dressmaker’s model themselves. They may also take a break in the fashion house and read through publications dedicated to fashion. The exhibition additionally offers five tours with commentary and four lectures on the fashion of the period. A richly-illustrated book describing the extraordinary fates of the fashion houses’ owners in connection with the Second World War and the subsequent Communist regime was published on the occasion of the exhibition.
