Prague's Golden Well Hotel the best in the world

This year, the Golden Well Hotel in Prague can boast the title of the world's best hotel. At least this is the opinion shared by travellers themselves, who rated this hotel number one in the world on the renowned travellers' server TripAdvisor.com.
The Golden Well Hotel
(map) is situated in the capital of the Czech Republic, immediately below the ramparts of Prague Castle. It is not a part of any hotel chain. This marvellous Renaissance-style building, whose history can be traced as far back as 1528, was originally held by
Rudolf II, the Roman Emperor and Habsburg King. The king allegedly gave this building to the astronomer Tycho Brahe as a gift, who really dwelt there while he was engaged at the imperial court. A legend has it that the astronomer encountered an apparition of the Virgin Mary and had new timbering made and some parts of the well gilded in honour of this event. Nowadays, the ancient well is only commemorated by the old cast-steel house sign by Josef Malínský from 1820. The gentle relief depicts the encounter of Jesus Christ and the woman from Samaria at the well with the inscription “Deus est spiritus”.
The hotel offers 17 rooms and 2 suites reflecting the history of the epoch of Rudolf II. The hotel is no more than a few steps away from Prague's greatest sights, the Charles Bridge, Royal Gardens, St. Nicholas Church or the Old Town Square. In summer months, hotel guests can use the Emperor Rudolf II's private entrance to the
Prague Castle Gardens.
