This town was founded thanks to the privilege of King John of Luxemburg in the early 14th century, and gradually grew in wealth due to its location on the trade route. In the 16th century, the town bought itself out of serfdom and became a free town. At that time, stone houses replaced the former wooden ones (e.g., the monumental arcade house “Stará pošta” – the Old Post Office) and the fortress was rebuilt into a Renaissance chateau. More recently, the unique Museum of Millinery was established at the chateau. The Baroque house “U anděla” (At the Angel), which has a drugstore, is also worth mentioning.
