Besides the monumental Renaissance chateau with an English-style park, the most significant sight is the town square, a unique complex of historical houses in the Renaissance and Baroque styles.
The historical center is included in the prestigious UNESCO list of World Heritage sites.
Recently, fine arts and music have played an important role in the town's cultural life. Several annual music events take place here (such as the "Holidays in Telč" festival ). Telč can be easily reached from the Prague-Brno highway.
The Telč chateau
A large Renaissance chateau complex from the 17th century, originally a Gothic castle of the Lords of Hradec, was built mainly according to a project by B.Maggi of Arogne. It includes a garden and a park and boasts luxurious historical interiors with unique decoration, period furnishings and valuable collections. There is also an exhibit of painter Jan Zrzavý in the chateau garden gallery. In the former burgrave´s place is a museum with ethnographic collections and exposition about the history of the town (the town model from 1895). The chateau, together with the town, is included in the UNESCO list of World Heritage sites.
