Do you think that physics, mathematics and technology are boring sciences? Alternatively, do you consider their mysteries truly fascinating? In any case, you should not miss the unique interactive museum Techmania Science Center in Pilsen (map), in the western part of the Czech Republic. You will definitely learn a lot of new facts and will certainly not be bored while doing so.
The goal of the Techmania project is to draw science and technology closer to a wider audience and introduce visitors to the actual borderline of human knowledge. Techmania’s expositions include interactive exhibits. Visitors may put them in motion and have a first-hand experience of the operating concept of particular physical principles and processes.
There are four main exhibits at Techmania:Edutorium – a set of 60 interactive expositions focused on teaching physics. You will reveal mathematics and physics in the simplest things that surround us and in the things which we encounter every day. In the Edutorium, you will learn how and why these things work. You can experiment with sound and light or you can allow yourself to be deceived by optical illusions. The whole exposition is supported by an original online encyclopaedia of science and technology.
TOP SECRET – an exposition full of puzzles and a mysterious atmosphere where nothing is as it seems. You will become a spy working for a secret agency and will try out some investigative methods, such as dactylography, ballistics or document encrypting.
MáToHáček (ThereIsaHith) – a place full of brainteasers, games and toys that hides examples of physical principles to be revealed to you.
Exhibit Škoda – As Techmania takes place on the grounds of the Škoda Company, it has a part dedicated to the history and present-day life of this company.
One of the exhibits is Entropa, a sculpture created by David Černý. The piece of art is displayed as a part of an interactive exposition about the EU. Entropa was provided by Europe Direct, the information centre of the European Commission, which is based at Techmania.
Apart from these expositions, there are a number of interesting events organised all year round. For a comprehensive list of Techmania events click
