Okoř is today an extensive ruin of what was once a Gothic castle from the 14th century, rebuilt later in the Late Gothic and Renaissance styles. It was deserted in the late 18th century.

The complex of the castle ruin has the characteristic torso of a prismatic tower with remains of an Early Gothic chapel with a semi-round bastion. In case of danger, the moat around the castle could have been flooded.

"Czech Siberia" is the nickname of an area of hilly countryside only a few kilometers south of the capital city of Prague. The area is as cold as if it were located 200 meters higher, because of the frequency of temperature inversions in winter.
