Scratch a Czech, you’ll find a musician, they used to say. But in the twenty- first century times have changed. Now its scratch a Czech and you’ll find a cyclist! At least that’s how it might seem to a visitor from a foreign country watching the everyday scene in almost any Czech town. Envision it: on the road a sporting cyclist in colorful racing togs is passed by a car carrying a roof rack full of bicycles. On the pavement you are startled by the swoosh of an agile bicycle messenger rushing to make his delivery. By the side of the road an older woman pushes along a rusty bicycle: balanced on the handlebars is a bag full of groceries. A gaggle of children races around the pedestrian zone, while the local policeman cautions them from the saddle of his bicycle. In short: there are just over 10 million Czechs today and about the same number of bikes of varying age, quality, and price. Manufacturers’ and importers’ statistics show that Czechs purchase over two hundred thousand new bicycles each year. And this does not include individual purchases abroad, private sales outside the distribution network and sales in the hypermarkets, for which figures are rarely available.

The Czech Republic is aware of the importance of the congress industry; it is one of the most dynamically developing economic activities worldwide. This is evidenced by huge investments in congress infrastructure, and in particular the capital city of Prague there is proof that these investments have definitely paid off.

A dense and modern traffic net of the Czech Republic allows a quick and comfortable travelling within the whole territory. The variability of chosen means of transport is also important - cars, buses, bikes, bicycles, trains or express trains, aeroplanes or ships.
