HEALTHCARE

The social security system is overseen and managed by the state. It covers healthcare, pensions, and unemployment insurance, as well as child-related benefits and other related social services. While all Czech citizens are guaranteed a minimum level of basic healthcare by the state, several independent, commercial health insurance companies have also been established.

Whether you arrive in the Czech Republic as a tourist or student, plan to stay in the country for a longer period of time, or perhaps move here permanently, you will need a “card” to verify personal health insurance coverage.

All companies registered in the Czech Commercial Registry are required to contribute (pay) an amount equal to 35% of each employee’s gross salary towards the country’s social security and health insurance funds. This amount covers both of the mandatory employer and employee contributions.
